Student Experience & Support

Primer welcomes students with a wide range of learning needs and strives to provide an environment where every student can grow and succeed. During the admissions process, we'll learn more about your child's strengths, goals, and any existing supports so we can determine whether Primer is the right fit.

If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or other educational support plan, please share it with our Admissions team. This information helps our educators better understand your child's needs and plan appropriate support.

While we work to support many different learners, there may be situations where a student's needs extend beyond the resources or services we are able to provide. If that occurs, we'll have an open and collaborative conversation with your family to determine the best path forward.

At Primer, we recognize that every student learns differently. Rather than expecting every child to learn at the same pace, we tailor instruction to meet each student where they are academically while helping them continue to grow.

Our approach includes:

• Personalized learning: Students receive instruction and learning experiences based on their individual skill level and progress.
• Ongoing progress monitoring: Primer Leaders regularly review student progress and use that information to adjust instruction and provide the right level of support.
• Targeted support: Students may receive additional guidance, instructional strategies, or learning supports to help them succeed while continuing to work toward mastery.
• Strong student relationships: Primer Leaders take time to get to know each student—their strengths, interests, and learning style—so they can create a supportive and engaging classroom experience.

Our goal is for every student to feel challenged, supported, and empowered to make meaningful progress every day.

Primer is an English-language school, and all classroom instruction is delivered in English. While we do not currently offer a traditional English Language Learner (ELL) program, we work to support students as they develop their English language skills.

For students who would benefit from additional English word recognition practice, Primer provides support through our reading program.

If your child is an English language learner, we encourage you to discuss their individual needs with our Admissions team so we can help determine whether Primer is the right fit for your family.

Primer is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment where students can focus on learning. Every campus follows established safety procedures and prepares students and staff to respond to emergencies.

Our safety measures include:

• Thorough background checks for all staff members before they begin working with students.
• Background checks for campus volunteers.
• Annual safety training for educators, including first aid and CPR.
• Regular emergency preparedness drills, including fire, severe weather, and active threat drills.
• Secure campuses with locked exterior doors and gates during the school day.
• Security cameras on every campus.
• Emergency response plans developed in partnership with local fire and public safety agencies.

At Primer, we strive to create a learning environment where every student feels safe, respected, and supported. Students are expected to demonstrate responsibility, kindness, honesty, and respect for others each day.

We expect students to:

• Treat classmates, educators, and staff with kindness and respect.
• Be honest in both their behavior and academic work.
• Take responsibility for their actions and contribute positively to the school community.
• Care for school property and learning resources.

Bullying, harassment, discrimination, and academic dishonesty are not tolerated at Primer. When concerns arise, our team works closely with students and families to address them, reinforce expectations, and support positive behavior.

Our goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to develop the character, integrity, and responsibility that will serve them throughout their lives.

At Primer, every classroom is built around three key elements that support student success:

• A structured, positive learning environment: Students learn in classrooms with clear routines, consistent expectations, and a culture that helps them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
• Thoughtful planning and instruction: Primer Leaders come prepared each day with lessons, materials, and activities designed to make the most of every learning opportunity.
• Personalized support and engagement: Students participate in a variety of learning experiences—including direct instruction, independent work, small-group learning, and hands-on projects. Throughout the day, Primer Leaders provide guidance, individualized support, and feedback to help every student stay engaged and continue making progress.

Together, these practices create an environment where students are challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

The Learning Profile is a short section of Primer's application that helps us get to know your student.

You'll answer a few questions about:

• Where your child is currently learning.
• Their educational background, including any IEP, 504 Plan, or support services they receive.
• What interests your family about Primer.

The entire application, including the Learning Profile, is designed to take about 10 minutes to complete.
